Shawne Merriman Vs. Tila Tequilla

I know I’m somewhat late on this story but I like to err on the side of caution when dealing with celebrities and a woman getting beaten or raped by a man because it always seems like the guy in question (at least initially) is guilty until proven innocent. Take the Duke Lacrosse case, Kobe Bryant’s alleged ass raping of a young Colorado woman or Ben Rothlisberger’s recent accuser as examples of the media going off and over-sensationalizing a story and then being wrong about it.
The first time I heard about this story I’m going, “why the fuck is Shawne Merriman dating Tila Tequilla?”. There has to be about a million bi-sexual girls that would bang Shawne Merriman that don’t look like they starred in the animated film Antz. Not to mention the whole bi-sexual reality dating show she starred in getting slobbered on by male and female tools alike on national TV. It just didn’t seem like the kind of sound decision that a steroid shooting, purple mohawk sporting linebacker would make.
Then I came across this from a local San Diego new station purporting to have the inside scoop after interviewing people in the know. Allegedly, Merriman went into his bedroom with two women, Tila Tequilla went in after and Merriman asked Tequilla to join the festivities which is perfectly reasonable request to a known whore bag. She became enraged, threatened to have sexual congress with a member of Merriman’s entourage, got naked and tried to leave the premises. It is said this is the point that Merriman restrained Tequilla and 911 was called.
Pretty much the kind of behavior you would expect from a steroided up monster and the strumpetish star of the first mainstream bi-sexual, reality/competition TV dating show.
I won’t even really offer you an opinion on who I think is right or wrong, I’ll just say that this is why I rarely have sex with 3 girls at once anymore. Crazy girls tend to exaggerate stories but they are also the only ones who will bang you with two of their whore friends. It’s like playing with dynamite and if it happens to explode you either have a court case or herpes… or both.
Obamanomics

I have refrained from bashing the POTUS (check out west wing – great show) on this site but the gloves are off now.
Last night Barrack Hussein Obama stood before congress and urged their support for HIS health care bill. Under HIS health care bill the United States government would spend 900 billion dollars to run health care and to offer free health care to every citizen.
Now every Republican and a good handful of Democrats do not support this. So instead of “reaching across the aisle” (catch phrase of the Obama campaign) he is still shoving it down people’s throats! He has not changed one major thing in the bill and told his die-hard opponents that he will not bother with them. Is this not a democracy? Don’t we elect congressman and senators to be our voice and have a say and a vote? He said last night he has already put the plans into motion for “demonstration projects” in certain states. How is this going to work? How can you deem one state have free health insurance and one not, even in a trial period? My next question where in the fuck are you getting 900 billion dollars? We are a deep recession with people trying to make payments to mortgage companies, utility companies, credit card companies, etc. Where do you think this money is going to come from? Ummmmm – new taxes.
I only took 2 economics classes but I think if I proposed this situation I would have got laughed out of the class. I am strongly against universal health care, but I agree some changes should be made. I think all children should receive health care, health care insurance and premiums should be lowered, and there should be some reform in medical malpractice. But for the government to step in and give me the same healthcare options as the druggy on the corner is ludicrous! The big question that everyone keeps ignoring is the impact of insurance companies? Insurance companies will stop picking up regular doctor’s visits, they will stop picking up physicians rebates, and the cost of surgery and treatment will go through the roof! All this so crack head can shoot more shit into his vein and then go to the hospital for free. I love how instead of focusing on the real problem of how to get America back on its feet as the leading global economy we are focusing on a segment of our population that doesn’t pay taxes and already takes advantage of government programs. Here is a thought – create more jobs so people can take advantage of employer’s health care and they will pay taxes. But since Barrack Hussein Obama spent 787 billion dollars on his “recovery plan” unemployment is almost in double digits – 2 % higher than when he took office. Ronald Reagan took office under some of the same conditions as Barrack Hussein Obama . I will admit Reagan’s conditions were not as bad as the current ones, but the man did a damn good job getting us out of the hole. Instead of creating programs for us to spend money on he created programs for us to invest in.
How many people can take advantage of buying things right now – when all their money is going to bills? The smart thing would be to make people money! Don’t get them to spend it, have them invest it, the spending will come later. Cut income taxes that will encourage people to work more thus making them more money and cutting capital gains taxes will encourage investment.

The Evolution of The Music Industry

With the sale of The Pirate Bay to a company and their plans to turn it into a legal file distribution site (the same route Napster went) it would seem to be a monumental victory for the Recording and Motion Picture Industries. As monumental or bigger than the fall of free Napster. However, what these organizations fail to realize is that they are treating a symptom, not the problem and effectively putting a band-aid over a bullet wound.
The RIAA has an antiquated business model particularly. You won’t even see a CD in 10 years the way you don’t see a Vinyl Record nowadays. While for the last 70+ years recording labels have had a monopoly on where music could be sold and at what price, those days are gone. The distribution of music for our and subsequent generations will be the digital way, downloads. The problem with this and the problem that the Recording industry has not yet come up with a solution for is the unlimited amount of copies that a digital version of a song can birth. As they are leaked onto the internet the copies go up in numbers exponentially. There have been tries to mitigate music piracy, Digital rights management (DRM) is a systematic approach to copyright protection for digital media. This endeavor has failed miserably to curb illegal downloading although I believe is still used in iTunes.
What some of the smarter Record Labels are realizing is that the money from artists is shifting from CD sales to concert ticket sales. That’s one part of the equation. Though to really weather the storm that is file sharing, the Record labels and or Artists need to adapt their business models. Artists like Trent Reznor (a born Pennsylvanian I might add) have shown that you can give your music away for free and still make buttloads of money. Of course Trent and band Nine Inch Nails became famous before the tide turned the way of illegally downloading music and this business model probably would not work in most instances given NIN’s already large fan base but Trent began growing weary of the corporate greed earlier. A quote from Reznor in states, “…the climate grows more and more desperate for record labels, their answer to their mostly self-inflicted wounds seems to be to screw the consumer over even more.” in response to Interscope’s price gouging of NIN’s latest offering. He even encouraged people to steal their albums online.
I’m not necessarily a Nine Inch Nails fan but I don’t think there’s doubt that Reznor is a true visionary on this battlefront.
Other artists have begun to embrace a new way of distributing their music online, offering something tangible. Mos Def has offered a free t-shirt with the purchase of his album or rather a free album with the purchase of a t-shirt. Some artists have experimented with sending autographed album or other band related artwork in poster form to fans who buy limited edition albums. The concept of offering a physical product with a digital download of an album is a novel one and somewhat makes up for the lack of a material album in fans hands.
Whatever the idea, it has been proven that real fans will shell out money for their favorite artists for their newest release no matter if they can get it free or not. That does not help the struggling garage band make it to the big time without an already large following but if their ideas are smart enough, viral enough and the band is actually good enough that people will want to see them then they will survive. Just as Music Video’s catapulted artists in the 80’s and 90’s into mainstream consciousness so can it’s cousin YouTube.
The Music Industry needs to embrace these ways of selling albums rather than relying on and defending a dying business model. There will be piracy no matter what now that we have entered the digital age, the Record Labels that adapt will be around as long as they have a product that is relevant to fans. And true, die hard fans are always going to be there and support their favorite acts. It is now a matter of making these acts matter to the public and I’ll leave that up to the music industry and the artists themselves to figure out.

Let’s just say for the sake of argument that reincarnation exists and you have your choice of who or what you are going to be in your next life. That question is too easy for me and number one on my big board is the artist formally known as Brian Austin Green now just Brian Green. Think about how cool it would have been growing up on Beverley Hills 90210. Every day you’re hanging out with Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth. Your learning about the birds and the bees from Luke Perry, and when you get bored with that you go bang a couple extras in your trailer. Then Tiffani Amber Thiessen decides to join the show and tries to make over her girl next door image by playing a slut!
Ahhh there is a God! Seriously every guy between the ages of 24 and 30 has choked their chicken to her multiple times. Imagine “being there” for her during this transition. He dated her for a couple years then moved on to Vanessa Marcil when she came on 90210. For those who don’t know Vanessa Marcil – first shame on you and second she is of the TV show “Vegas” fame and plays Nick Cage’s girlfriend in “The Rock”. Great scene in “The Rock” where she is riding him like a champ and Nick Cage says like only he can say “Oh yeah. The pigtails are very naughty. Naughty! Naughty!” So he fucks her for awhile, screws up and has a kid with her. Then like every kind, gentle, providing guy he breaks up with her for Megan Fox. Do you blame him? The guy has money, possibly the best kill count ever recorded, stories upon stories and all this at the tender age of 32.
So Beersluggers, I leave you with these questions to ponder: What or who are you going to be in your next life? Who has the best kill count of all time?
Obama… No Problema?

You know I’m really tired of a lot of things going on right now in this Country. The fact that we have a new President who doesn’t fumble over words written on a teleprompter and who happens to be black does not make him infallible. Just because the current administration is proposing Cash for Clunkers or Universal Healthcare does not mean you have to believe blindly in it just because you voted for him. I voted for him and I don’t necessarily agree with everything that’s going on.
I agree Obama should be given a chance to prove himself and I am anxious to the the outcome of some of his endeavors. However, just because I do not agree with some of the policy’s proposed by the Obama administration does not make me a right wing supporter or a racist or not caring for the well being of the uninsured. It just makes me have (I’d like to think) informed opinions which can and have changed with better and better information and opinions I hear from both sides of the issues.
I don’t believe that all people who oppose the war(s) are left leaning, freedom hating socialists so I don’t appreciate being painted that way…. (yes you girl at the bar I was having a conversation with last weekend but was disinterested after we started discussing Obama).
It seems to me that it is very “Taboo” to criticize the President or his administration’s actions in the media or public discussion. This is due (in my opinion) principally to his relatively short term in office so far but also some of it is race related whether we want to acknowledge it or not. It seems to me that there is an overwhelming want from the general public and media for Obama to succeed and not be ridiculed because of his race (which is ironically half Caucasian).
I do not want the current President to be held up to a higher or lower standard because of race or any other factor. The President is the President, regardless of sex, race, religion or sexual orientation. Yes since this countries inception the President has been a white male but that doesn’t mean that we don’t hold the first black President’s feet to the fire just as his predecessors were. That doesn’t mean the public should rubber stamp every policy the Obama Administration suggests without asking where the money will come from to finance it. Basically, just because he’s black doesn’t mean we should stop asking questions (and I’m not talking birth certificates here). I know a lot of people are crazy about him and believe he is some sort of political messiah that will deliver us from all bad but that’s a lot to ask from a 1 and a half term U.S. senator.
But maybe he is being treated fairly in the media and I’m just not watching those shows because I’m too interested in the Phillies right now, who knows. All I know is I’m fed up with people blindly believing and not asking questions about “How” and “Why”.
I have see a couple of people criticize him in the media and I’ll list a couple here:
Bill Maher is a guy you wouldn’t think would take on the left but then again he did it with Clinton.
Jon Voight is one of the few celebrities I’ve seen talk in detail about where the country seems to be going.
Kieth Olberman, one of Obama’s media biggest admirer’s also took aim at Obama.
Anyway, not to get too political on you BeerSlugger’s out there, it just bugs me when someone believes in something blindly whether left or right leaning. Get the (so called) facts and make informed and rational decisions. Of course this is America what the fuck am I talking about.
In closing America, stop drinking whatever flavor of Kool-Aid that’s being served and have a glass of water instead.
California Wildfires

It’s hard for me to get worked up about California wildfires. First of all, this happens every year, there’s some massive widespread fire that threatens thousands of houses in California and always seems to happen at the close of summer ostensibly after the brush has dried up and is more susceptible to going up like a tinder box.
Not that I don’t feel for the people that have or may lose their house in these fires but seriously why don’t you just move out of harms way once and for all. Granted you might be a little farther away from L.A. than you want but you may not have to deal with wildfires every September.
For as much shit as Californian’s and everyone else who slurps the state talks about how beautiful it is there you really don’t hear a peep from those people during the borderline natural disasters that happen every year. Between wildfires and earthquakes every year the mass media has me trying to feel bad for all these people and their Million Dollar homes who pretend to be better than me for living in California under the sun and surf…. and wildfires. Instead of focusing on the people who lost their house can I get a story about some smart people who actually moved away from wildfire alley?
You know how there’s Hurricane season? Well this is Wildfire season for California, lets not pretend like this is a surprise development newscasters. You knew this was coming. Come up with some sort of early warning system for the poor souls who still desire to live next to acres of kindling so they can spray their houses down with some sort of anti-flamatory resin and get the fuck out of Dodge.
Besides, Wildfires are a part of natures cycle in that region, in fact Fire is an essential part of most wildland ecosystems. Things become overgrown, there’s lightening or some other event that sparks a fire, shit goes up in flames and begins a rebirth period, removing dead organic material from the area and releasing nutrients from mature plants back into the soil so that new plants may take up root.
The only things that is not natural in this process is that man has taken up residence in these areas and is trying to delay the inevitable.
Or maybe nature is colluding against us like in the M. Night Shyamalan movie The Happening. Man what a terrible movie. Talk about a guy who peaked too early. The guys career looks like the second half of a Bell Curve. But I still got love for you Shyamalan. Keep making shitty movies in the Philadelphia area.
Cell Phones and Brain Tumors

The cell phone has become a necessity rather than a luxury in the last decade. I remember at the turn of the century when I thought me getting a pager was “selling out”. I never wanted to be that plugged in or accessible to people. Then times changed, I eventually buckled and got a cell phone then buckled again about a year ago to get the all important email/internet on the phone.
Like many of you BeerSlugger’s out there I can’t really imagine life without the cell phone now. Telephone technology that used to be affixed to a wall has been available in your pocket now for about 15 or so years commercially. Some 4 billion people are now or have used cell phones.
I remember when my mom got a cell phone for car emergencies in 1996 or so, back then using a cell as your main communication line was very cost prohibitive. I also remember reading a warning that came with the cell phone that stated the possible effects of the radiation emitted from the cellphone could cause, number one obviously involving the brain since you effectively hold your phone up to it.
Fast forward to today and I’ve just read a report that has me slightly concerned and has renewed an old fear about cell phones and their radiation.
A quote from the report:
Lloyd Morgan, lead author and member of the Bioelectromagnetics Society says, “Exposure to cellphone radiation is the largest human health experiment ever undertaken, without informed consent, and has some 4 billion participants enrolled. Science has shown increased risk of brain tumors from use of cellphones, as well as increased risk of eye cancer, salivary gland tumors, testicular cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and leukemia. The public must be informed.”
Sounds like pretty serious stuff. The report also states that the Telecommunications funded studies of Cell Phone use and it’s risk of Brain Tumors was greatly underestimated. It is said that the telecom studies left out several types of brain tumors, did not interview people who had died or who were too sick to be interviewed as well as children and young adults who seem to be at a greater risk. That’s a complete shocker being that like most corporations, the health of their bottom line is valued more than the health of their clients. Plus, corporations misleading the general public about the safety of their product is nothing new in the U.S. or anywhere else, just ask the Pharmaceutical industry.
The report also had special warnings about the radiation given out by iPhone users so you guys better watch out.
Reading something like this, whether true or untrue, really puts things into perspective in terms of what politicians are fighting over today and what they should be fighting over. I for one would love the government to throw a couple million towards a tried and true cell phone safety study, though that’s not going to happen when the corporations own Washington. I’m sure the mass media will touch briefly on this story and go back to covering who the father of Michael Jacksons’ kids are or who’s going to be the contestants on Dancing with the Stars.
I try to use the speakerphone feature as much as possible on cell phones and have noticed some cell phones give me a headache or ringing in my head when placing them up to my ear. I wonder if this is somehow related to the radiation.
With this being said and dropping all this science knowledge on you, I think it is now safe to blame all the times I got really wasted and couldn’t get it up on my cell phone being in my pants too close to my gigglebits. I reserve to use this excuse in the future if I so desire even if I don’t have my phone on me. Listen sweetheart, it’s science.
ps: I made up the thing about the special warning for iPhone users in that report. You also believed it because you didn’t read the report. Admit you cringed at the thought having to make a decision over good health or still using your iPhone. I think most would still pick the iPhone.
Blogging about Blogging?

You know I love sites like LifeHacker.com that kind of scour the internet for you and present you with the best stuff. LifeHacker specifically resides on my iGoogle page and i check out the site pretty much daily to find out a lot of (Do it Yourself) DIY type stuff or how to save money on this and general other “How to”‘s.
Now to be fair LifeHacker does come out with a lot of original content, however, most of their daily posted content seems to be of the “check out what this website wrote about” variety. So essentially LifeHacker and many other sites like it are “Blogging about Blogging”. Seems a little redundant but also seems to be working for some people/companies.
Of course it’s kind of ironic that in this post I’m blogging about blogging about blogging but we’ll try and put that aside for a minute and focus in Blogging2.
So sites like LifeHacker do serve a great purpose and provide their audience with a condensed snapshot of interesting and useful posts from other blogs thus providing you possibly with things you didn’t know about or allowing you to skip the search part of the internet experience trying to find information on a topic.
Either way though, it’s a symbiotic relationship between the blogger and the blogging. The blog with the original post is provided with traffic they wouldn’t have had through the ancillary post linking to their website. The blog that is linking to the original post is receiving search engine consideration for the post and thus expanding their internet exposure all while not really writing any original content. There’s not a loser in this equation.
However, there is something to be said about your “bread and butter” being other people’s content. Contributing a paragraph or two along with an endorsement and reaping all the rewards. Kind of like in college if your roommate got a keg and had a great party you were somehow glorified as well just for living there. You did none of the leg work but do get credit.
Anyway, I know a lot of you BeerSlugger’s out there may not be into these subjects as much as I am but it’s stuff I think about. I feel like I’m cheating a little when I post a Youtube video because it’s not my video so I guess there’s content copying all over the blogging realm. I’m not losing sleep over it though it’s easy to go to sleep after 10 beers.
BTW: This is BeerSlugger.com’s 200th post. I’m getting drunk to celebrate.
Anne Heche – The BeerSlugger Take

So I didn’t actually see Anne Heche on Letterman when she bashed her ex-husband but I think it’s kind of funny. As you’ll see in the video, she berates her ex-husband for essentially not doing anything with his life or being a Soccer coach or something. Apparently he still wants her to hang out together with him and or their child which I see as a mildly admirable thing to do but then again I wasn’t in the relationship and I have no idea what went on there.
I’m a little on the fence about Anne Heche, she was OK in a couple movies, then she started eating Ellen Degeneres’ box for awhile, then she went from vagitarian back to a hearty meat diet as evidenced by her marriage to the guy she’s talking about. I’m going to guess she was on Letterman to promote Hung which is probably my favorite show of the summer and hopefully keeps going.
Anyway, I don’t know who would go on national TV to say ill of the father of their child but apparently Anne had no problem doing it. At the end of the video Letterman asks Anne what her ex-husband does and Heche replies something to the effect of going to the mailbox and open up checks that she sends him.
I always think it’s rather amusing when women have to pony up the palimony (the opposite of alimony). A successful woman having to send the ex-husband checks instead of the of the husband having to send the ex-wife checks. Women are always so gung ho about “getting half” and getting “their money” that it seems ironic when it works the other way.
So Anne Heche plays a bitch ex-wife in the HBO series Hung and it seems she may be a bitch in real life as well but I think the moral of this story is to watch Thomas Jane as a gigolo and some brief female nudity during sex scenes.
